Age of Empires 3

So Age of Empires 3 finally shipped yesterday....who else plans on getting this game once it hits the shelves? I was a huge fan of age of empires 2, not so much age of mythology though. I played the demo and it was pretty fun....so ya who plans on getting it?

I would get it buy my comp is so horrible

Gameplay was worse than AOE2 from the demo.

I won't be buying it.

Miscguy 10-19-2005 11:41 AM

The game is meh. I wish i could zoom out further.

Didn't enjoy the demo much.

Cossacks 1 & 2>AoE3 imo

It's not that great looking anyways.

It doesnt feel like AOE at all. Its like every other RTS out there. Which wasnt the case with AOE2. Its pretty in depth in areas that dont matter, such as the "shipments" and "cards". It hurts the game itself, and combat lacks alot. Formations form AOE2 are gone, leaving tactics to your regular red alert rush and let the shit hit the fan.

The demo is no differant from the full game. So if you dont liek the demo, dont bother with the game.

I tried the demo of cossacks 2 i believe, i really didnt like it. AOE3 is a decent/good game, but basically, the only knew things are good graphics and a home city. I wouldve hoped they would have made combat more realistic and on a larger scale. I personally really liked the imperial glory demo, sorta a TW ripoff set in the napoleonic wars, but the combat worked very nicely Imo, and u didnt have to worry about resource managemant. Didnt buy it cause the offcial game recieved not to great reviews.

I wish I knew a Cossack IRL.

Stammer 10-19-2005 03:42 PM

Meh to AOE3.

Would have to get a new computer to play AOE3.. my dad really liked the first and second ones, so once he gets a new computer, hell prolly buy it.

my feelings exactly....it seems like alot of the newer 3d rts games are that way, i hate the shit being so far zoomed in. Also...I agree with alot of what you guys are saying. This game does not feel like the classic age 2 in gameplay at all. It was the awesome gameplay of age 2 that made it one of the best rts games of all time imo. It seems like alot of the newer rts games are following the c&c generals trend of completly changing the classic gameplay that fans of the franchise love. I was such a huge fan of age 2 so im gonna give age 3 a chance....but im going to be looking forward to cod 2 alot more i think.

had it for about a week...meh. animations are nice but once you get over that it's no different than every other recent rts. build lots of units, send lots of units at enemy.

Yeah, the only game that really required a military strategy was Rome Total War but that got old fast too.

dr nein 10-19-2005 09:37 PM

and as misc stated there's no formations. sure, you have modes, but they're pretty worthless. i always find my musketeers rushing in to try and set fire to some fort while they're supposed to be guarding the arty doing just that. sure, i can set them to "defend" but that doesn't make them hold their ground.

still, it's better than a lot of recent games.
