she tried to sue outkast for using her name in the title of a song oOo:
from all accounts, she wasnt a very pleasent person at all, just didnt want to get up one day. shell be remembered for that, but over-rated? nobody ever seems to question the real impact historic figures have, as if the civil rights movement would have failed without her... not trying to be disrespectful, but... eh

I admire what she stood for

She was the spark that ignited the fire. It took a situation just like hers to be made public and cause a media frenzy, to stir up other fed up african-americans feeling the same as her.

She, herself was not all that important, but the situation (The prejudice in bus seating was something that moderate-whites would agree was silly, it wasn't that huge a thing to give up - and therefore more support was given to her than if she had done something that would have seemed outrageously insane at the time) and the timing were the important factor.

It's proof and point that "seperate but equal" didn't apply. Why weren't the buses divided down the isle as opposed to the back vs the front? Forcing a tired black woman to get up and move because she was in the front "white" section just seemed silly to most - So alot more people could get behind it.

R.I.P....

she wasnt even siting in the front of hte bus. She sat in the front row of the black section but there were too many white people so they asked her to move. But yes it is a sad day when someone dies.

You know you're oOo: when you're American and a New Zealander knows more about American history than you.

It was fact that several other similiar cases to Rosa's occurred, but weren't used as a "spark" for the civil rights campaign for integration. Rosa Parks was significantly used because she led a working, married life, at a finiancially stable job; which made her a perfect candidate to face all the media pressure as well as being an active member of the NAACP.

R.I.P to someone who made a difference.

ASSuming makes an ASS of you. I did a paper on the lesser known causes/effects of the civil rights movement in a college course last semester, you'd be surprised what bullshit you've been fed your whole life when you research into it ;)
