is my burner dying?

ive had it for just a little over two years, used it pretty much everyday

now when I burn music CD's even at a considerably low speed, 24x, I get skipping and constant static on the songs and are just unbarable to listen to.

it just started doing this lately and everytime I burn a cd, it happens, I used TWO different brands of blank Cd's but it didnt make a difference, CD's arent scratched or have finger prints on them, they're straight out of their spindle.

so what do you think? time for a new burner?

hmmm.. I'd try using a different program first. Are data cds readable by your pc?

like games and programs and stuff? ya, my PC can still read them

Ive noticedd though, if I alrady have a CD in there (BF2) and I try double clickingthe icon or joining a game through xfire, I can hear my CD ROM trying to read the disk, eventually it doesnt after about 2mins, and BF2 says "PLease insert the Correct CD" or soemthing, as if my PC didnt have a CD in there to begin with.

I just eject it and push it back in, and it works normal

like a different burning program. Like Nero or whatever, just to be sure its not the programs fault.

lucky you got your money out of it. i broke my first burner and dvd drive the same week the exact same way. my tower is on the floor next to my chair and i was putting some games in the drive when for some reason i turned around in my swivel chair and my knee hit the ROM tray and knocked it off its track. 3 days later i did the same to my dvd rom drive.

oOo:

my actual laptop cd/dvd drive is fucked proper but luckily ive got a external dvd writer to save the day.

new desktop drives are cheap as chips though so aint the end of the world for you.
