For those of you keeping score at home. Blizzard Entertainment has just announced that they have now reached 5 million paying subscribers to World of Warcraft across the globe. In late July it was 3.5 million and then 4 million in late August. So 5 million is like, a lot more.

IRVINE, Calif. – December 19, 2005 – Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced that World of Warcraft®, its massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), has surpassed five million customers worldwide. The subscription-based MMORPG launched approximately one year ago in North America, Australia, and New Zealand and has since released in multiple countries throughout Europe and Asia.

So then... 5 million people paying roughly $12 - $15 per month would be $60 - $75 million each month. Perhaps if they work really hard they get to gross over a billion dollars next year.

i just finished playing the beta for D&D Online and imagine that game will cut into their pretty little numbers....

WoW isn't as fun as Lineage 2 is. Of course I play on private servers, I don't pay to play any game on a monthly basis.

I started playing again after 4 months of not playing... And it's even more addictive now that it was before...

5 million @ 20.00 bucks a month.

i canceled my subscription last month. It really is addicting, im not even sure it was that fun, I just wanted to get to the highest level and get the best gear. Im glad i stopped playing though, I have a lot more free time now...to play other games.

Would be interesting to see just how many subscibers are actually asian, probably makes up well over half the player base.

Or we could just wait till the servers crash for a couple of days and see how many asian suicides there are.

It's $13-15 a month depending how many months you pay for.

Supposodly a lot of it goes to "upkeep of the servers" with the rest going to high class hookers, cocaine etc for the dev team.

haha yeah i bet you those servers cant cost more than a mil a year total...either way, there are at least 50 million dollars sitting around every month (depending on the actual cost of subscription)

i bet the devs are livin t up like jay-z now...itd be funny for em to make a music video
