Truck Audio Help

Hopefully some of the automotive audio gurus can help me out:

I recently acquired a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Reg Cab and I want better audio inside, but I have 0 confidence if I were to install it myself, therefore I feel I need to get it professionally done.

I wanted to keep a budget of under $1000 w/ speakers, HU, 4 chan amp, 10" sub, 1 chan amp, but thats not going to be remotely possible with installation prices. Also, I am going ALL ALPINE EQUIPMENT with this setup.

Should I spend $800 (w/ install) for just new speakers, HU, amp, and forget a sub?

or

Just keep the setup now, upgrade w/ a new Head Unit[/url:b1b7b] and get the new Alpine truck subwoofer setup due out soon?[/url:b1b7b] and end up near $1000 (w/ install)

or

Bite the bullet, and buy that + new speakers and amp for an extra $400 totaling around $1400 (w/ install) ed: because this will be the best?

or

Do nothing because all my choices suck. (Other suggestions are welcomed and expected...)

Engine mods (CAI, exhaust, chips) are out of the question because I've still got 4 years left on the powertrain warranty.

Enclosure ( I reccomend having a local shop build you one, but IF you want to save on $$ then a prefabbed sealed can do...)

*You are looking at about 1000 $ here shipped before install. Installation for this would run you around 250 to 350 $. Local rate here (at a good shop) would set you back 300CAD $.

all in all, about 1400 $ for a mid level system that will sound fantastic.

Thanks Short, looks good, I just need to figure out what to do about a sub box, I don't really want a box sitting in the truck since it's only a reg cab. Do you think somthing like THIS[/url:e3883] would be a good idea?

Seriously, what I just advised... is basicly within your budget, BUT I would feel short changed if I went any lower. I am NOT an SPL fan either, so this is leaning more towards the SQ (sound qaulity side).

9mm BeRetTa 03-07-2006 08:30 PM

Sorry....SPL?

Short Hand 03-07-2006 08:31 PM

Sound Pressure Level (basicly loudness in a sense)

Gotcha.

If you feel like spending the extra money, then that Ebay enclosure could do.

9mm BeRetTa 03-07-2006 09:17 PM

Yea, I'm leaning towards that (even though its about $100 more) because then I can save some space. I'd prolly only put a 10" sub in as well, with the 12" the guy says the seat sits a bit higher.

Do you think there's a big difference between Alpine's "Type R" and "Type S", it'll save me about $100 going with "S" if my math serves me right. Plus the Tyep R's can run at higher RMS, but the amp only allows for 40rms x4.

Short Hand 03-07-2006 09:24 PM

Trust me..... There is a pretty big difference with Type R's. You can scant on the rear 6x9's and the Woofer, BUT keep with the Type R Compoenents @ the front.

Well none of that equipment is very much renouned for its SQ, perhaps with the exception of the HU, I'd say thats a very solid middle road between SQ and SPL, SQL if you will.

He said he wanted all Alpine..... So for what it is, in this budget range it is SQ oreinted.... Sealed box, upper end component wise for the budget (respectively in the Alpine family)...... 2 band eq (bass/treb) = SQ.

IF he was looking for some shiva's and koda's.. I would do so accrodingly.. BUT he is not looking for Adire Gear. He is looking for Alpine.

9mm BeRetTa 03-08-2006 12:39 PM

Yep, I went Alpine in my old jeep I had and it worked out very nicely, stupid me though, I don't remember whether I went with Type R or Type S in it. I only remember the HU 9826 and the AMP F240.

The prices on Alpine seems decent too, so I really didn't want to look anywhere else since I've had a good experience with it.

Would I be better off with another company? IMO Alpine HUs look the best and their amps are cheap enough, so I just figured I should go Alpine all around.

Type R gear is definitly not upper end. Alpine has type X, then F1 above that even. Good setup nonetheless.
