RHCP's Dani California
[quote:ddc1d]According to a recent Drowned In Sound report, a US radio presenter has accused the Red Hot Chili Peppers of plagiarism, claiming that the band's "Dani California" single is near identical to Tom Petty's "Mary Jane's Last Dance".
Dan Gaffney, of Delaware-based WGMD, told his listeners of the similarities. Subsequently, the show's producer Jared Morris told reporters: "The chord progression, the melody, the tempo, the key, the lyrical theme... they're identical." [/quote:ddc1d] http://ultimate-guitar.com/news/general ... arism.html here's a link to the comparison track http://www.jared-morris.com/blog/petty.mp3 |
ha they are pretty similar.
|
that's what I thought when I listened to it
that it was a tom Petty song and the tom petty song is SO MUCH better. |

Tom Petty sounds like a hick.

I noticed that also. I think their new CD has some good songs, but it's very repetitive.

Tom Petty owns...
That comparison MP3 isn't quite fair; the tempo on the Petty track is sped up. Pretty obvious if anyone knows the track. However, the progression and meter seem reaaaaly similar and I don't like RHCP, so I hope they either get busted or die in a scuba diving / whaling accident. |
close but no cigar.
imo, who the fuk cares. cant an artist be influence by another anymore ffs. |

Judas, to what you're saying, things with the same chord progression doesn't mean one copied the other. The 12 bar blues is a common chord progression that is used in COUNTLESS songs. Hell, Ray Charles built his whole career off the 12 bar blues. When you are "heavily influenced" by multiple aspects, it calls for some legal action imo. |
the newest RHCP songs are all about California. Fuck California.
