Bonfire night

I'm not sure if any of you foreign freaks celebrate this but figured I'd post here anyways. Apparently on 5th November, about 5 or 600 years ago this chap called Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the English Parliament, but got caught in the process & burnt at the stake. Ever since that date we've been burning fake 'Guys' on bonfires & letting off fireworks.

England was actually a republic for about 11 years during our civil war & we had to eventually kill the King kus he was being a bit of a dick. But then we saw the error of our ways & got another King... We have a national day, St Georges day on April 23rd [Saint George is the patron Saint of England] We fly a few English flags [which is not the union jack] but we generally don't go completely mad & let off fireworks etc because it's not really part of the character, stiff upper lip & all that... We also have the last night of the Proms, trooping the colour & Royal ceremonies when we can go a little nuts for the patriotic cause but they are generally directed at Great Britain as a whole & not just England.
