Need Notebook Help

I bought a laptop from Best buy about summer time last year. Up until the past month its been working pretty good for what i use it for. But I noticed that it had started to run very VERY hot. I downloaded a program to monitor the fan speed/temperature of the hard drive and the laptop it self. And it says its running fairly hot.

Hard drive is running at 45C
Laptop is at 52C

Question is, I had bought a 3 year plan with best buy for any problems etc. Should I take it to them and see if they can fix it? Or not even waste my time. Anybody got any idea what it could be or any solutions?

Nothing new really for laptop to be runnning a bit warm seeing as how the components are all enclosed in a small space. Id assume the 52c temperature is the cpu, what type of cpu is it?

Can't tell you much. I don't know much about them but I got this as a gift.

If that doesn't tell you then Ill look it up some more.

And I understand that they do run hot at times, but when it gets to the point that it shut down because of its heat it might be a problem.

Pentium M, afaik those run pretty cool. Could be the cpu fan isn't kicking in when needed, they usually dont run constantly in laptops but will come on for a few seconds every now and then to cool the cpu.

If is still in warranty id say bring it back to get it checked out, just make sure the technician isn't uncle elmer who specialises in recomending bbq's to people.

If that lappy is shutting down because of a heat issue, definately return it to Best Buy. They're pretty good with service. Had to return mine twice within the 3 yr plan.

Yeah...I got a 3 year plan with them so maybe I will tomorrow, just hate to lose everything on my damn computer. Is there a way they will transfer the files from laptop to laptop? Or would I have to do it my self before I turn it in or pay them to do it.

Theres a battery settings area where I can mess with the CPU fan and when it should be on or not, I can also hear it kick in at times.

Better just to bring it to the store and see what they say.

if your gunna bring it to best buy to get ti serviced, dont touch anything, if youre gunna bring it to return it, try the fan thing and see if that helps. As far as transferring data from laptop to laptop, you can either create backup files to CD's or get a USB transfer cable.
