Recommended hard drives?
I have to get my hard drive replaced, as I described in a recent thread, because its on its last legs and will only last a week or so. I've backed up all my stuff now so its time to start over...
loney: I only know a few manufacturers: Maxtor, Raid, Hitachi, Samsung.... the size will be around 100-160gigs depending on the cost of course. It doesn't have to be top spec, just enough to do its job well and not cost a fortune Could anyone recommend me some internal drives? |
Both my drives are Western Digital and come highly recommended by me.
If youre computer supports SATA, here is a 160GB for $70 on the WD site, you'll probably find it cheaper at other sites but the WD site is a good start http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=137 |
How can I tell if my pc supports SATA, is that down to the motherboard or power supply specs??
my power supply is 400w P4 - 3.00 ghz Ati 850xt 256mb Radeon 2gigs DDRam Asus P4S800-MX Motherboard Aopen 52x Combo cd/dvd drive |
Sata connection on the motherboard

yeah it definately doesn't. Never seen that bright orange connector on it....
So I'm guessing I need an IDE drive then? or ATA, or SCSI? I'm pretty sure my current HD is an Maxtor IDE... Found some here: [url=http://attr-search.ebay.co.uk/seagate-hard-drive_W0QQa10244Z10425QQa14ZQ2d24QQa25710ZQ2d24QQa 31645Z31653QQa31646ZQ2d24QQa31647ZQ2d24QQalistZa25 710Q2ca31645Q2ca31646Q2ca10244Q2ca31647Q2ca14Q2ca3 801QQcatrefZC6QQcoactionZcompareQQcoentrypageZsear chQQcopagenumZ1QQflocZ1QQfromZR10QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ3Q QftrtZ1QQftrvZ1QQga10244Z10425QQgcsZ1580QQpfidZ196 8QQpfmodeZ1QQsacatZQ2d100QQsapplZ1QQsaprchiZQQsapr cloZQQsascsZ2QQsaslcZ1QQsbrsrtZd:eeb81]EBAY LINKAGE[/url:eeb81] Akuma mentioned Seagate are good.. |

Wicked, cheers for all your help dudes, I'm looking for Seagate Barracuda IDE drives now........installation should be quite straightforward I hope. Just unscrewing and taking out the old one, replacing with new..........things can't go wrong surely happy:
btw, I admit I've never partioned any of my hard drives before, I'm going to try that so I can keep all my programs and my windows files seperate. I'm sick of being a hard disk noob, time to experiment rock: |
btw the SATA connectors can be black too. check under the device manager and see if it says or has anything about a SCSI / Raid Controllers. if not IDE is fine
|
