Need help again
Don't know why family thinks I know how to fix comps just because I'm a game design major, but eh... I need help on helping my uncle.
He says he needs to reformat his computer, but he doesn't have the Windows XP disc, it came installed when he bought the computer. He wants to back up his program files onto CDs to later put back on. How do I make these CDs given he doesn't have CD burning software? I believe MS comes with a burning software by just placing files on the disc drive. Also... how would I reformat or roll back his computer to when he first had it without him having the disc, is that possible? Or is there a way to derive his XP CD key from registry and just use my windows software CD? After reformatting/rolling back, do I just copy the stuff from the CDs to the Program Files directory and expect them to work? He doesn't have a lot of software, if any, installed. Thanks guys. |
youd need to do a full back-up of the computer. just copying files to a cd wont work because there are registry files that are needed to run them. check to see if there is a restore place that windows has created back around the date when your uncle purchased the computer. you wont need the disc for that. outside of that, if you dont have good back-up software, have a place to put the back-up and dont have an XP cd your SOL as far as im concerned
