Refresh rate fix.....

Ok now that i've up'ed to Xp, whats the story with the refresh rate fix d/l?
Is it worth it? Does it help with fps or not?
Where can I get it?

From what I understand, nvidia's latest drivers will allow higher refresh rate. As long as your monitor can handle it. I didn't see a jump in fps, but my ping got a little better at 85mz. Easier on eyes too.

Have you seen http://www.xp-refresh.net yet? They explain it all. Problem is, the website for the NVrefresh tool (http://www.nvrt.net) has been down for at least 2 weeks. If you have a radeon card, there's the rage3d tweak.

I wanted to get the latest version last week because I reinstalled my OS and I couldn't find it.

Honestly, I don't notice a difference. My monitor only supports 75hz at 1152*864 so I won't notice much of one. I guess I'm just used to it.

But I'm getting a new monitor soon and it will definitely come in handy.

EDIT- MeatGrinder - what' he's referring to is the "bug" in XP that doesn't allow for "optimal" settings of refresh rates. When you go to a game, XP automatically plays open GL based games at 60hz. Read the xp-refresh.net for info.

In your advanced settings for your video (right click desktop, properties, settings, advanced) it should have a check box for "show only settings this monitor can support". It won't let you do what it can't support.

If not, look on the back of it for a name and model number and do a google search for specs for it.

I got a P4 2 Ghrz, 512MB RAM, and a GF4 Ti 4600. I changed my refresh rates to 120htz, and It boosted my FPS about 9 to 11 pts or so.

Jeez. What resolution do you have? What monitor do you have that can support 120hz at a good gaming resolution?

Maybe I should get my new monitor now if that affects FPS. That is the real weak link in my system - a 17" HP monitor from Jan. 1998.

Bazooka_Joe 09-04-2002 02:53 PM

Well, my monitor is 23", it supports up to 150, and has a max res of 2048X1800, or sumthing like that. I play MOH @ 1024X768 though.

Whoah. Is that that SUN systems monitor? Or an Apple Cinema Display?

Linkage, pics pleeeeze!
