playstation2 killing your bandwidth ?

Seems ever since the Playstation 2 went on line, my ping has gotten worse than before.

no one has any thoughts on about 2 million playstations going online utilizing bandwith. Xbox goes online next month as well.

It could hurt. My ping has gone to hell recently. Fricking console games.

If youre being serious, I need to slap you.

What effect is someone using their OWN line, gonna have on YOUR line. I dunno about you, but my DSL connection speed has YET to suffer from other people being online with DSL as well. Certainly it's faster at night, but the difference is negligible.

Networks, routers, servers and choke points? Do you truely think that you have a direct line to the hub? Have you ever worked in an office on a network?

The problem with my dsl is that it bottle necks leaving town and cable doesnt make any gaurantees regarding bandwidth. Sure I get a crispy connect to the local office, but 99.9% of what I want to get to isnt local.

Oh, my bad. You're right. The ISPs would never oversell bandwidth. More people online at once would never flood whats in place, because they had gamers in mind when they constructed their infastructure. That money thing is secondary to them, gamers are first.

Lol - funny thread - as if consoles are suddenly going to bog down the entire infrastructure of the internet !! Pest is right - look at an office situation, we have approx. 30 computers in our office running thru a gateway to a single internet connection. Doesn't bother us a bit. Not to mention, even if all these consoles connecting DID make a difference, you really think that a person who's using a PS2 to play online didn't previously have an internet connection already ? What affects you more than anything is how many people follow the same route that you do, and how much bandwidth they're using - the PS2 may use a portion of the same route as you, but likely it ultimately hits a server that is standalone for PS2 gaming. Have a look at a post later on the forums for an explanation or two as to why your MOH has been acting up.
