CC TV

I know a lot of places in Europe use CCTV in the streets and whatnot to reduce crime etc. The police here are thinking of doing this downtown a well. They said that over 6000 cars are stolen per year here and by installing cameras it will reduce crime and make it easier to track criminals and crimes in prograss.

What do you guys think? Is it a good idea? Or is it an invasion of privacy?

Arkan 10-02-2002 06:14 PM

Cameras in public streets? I don't see it being an "invasion of privacy". It's a good idea.

it's a public place, i don't see how it's all that different than setting up a watch tower with a guard in it

Innoxx 10-02-2002 07:06 PM

Well, unless i have sexual intercourse in a public place all the time, i don't think it would be an invasion of privacy.

Well a lot of people say that with cameras everywhere watching our every move shouldn't happen. A good example of how it can work is that woman who got caught beating her child not too long ago.

I'm not really against the idea. I think we have a lot to benifit from and less to lose.

Big Brother is watching. Careful what you do or say. There two sides to every coin. Are you comfortable knowing that when your walking down the street your being watched by a public servant, that may or may not have your safety in mind, I'm not. Step out of line and you could be in jail or paying a fine for some crime that you didn't even know existed, videos can be altered.

the communists did not take over the world. least not yet...

Mr.X 10-02-2002 09:40 PM

...a lot of people don't like the big-brother aspect, but there are that many scumbags and "gangs"
roaming or driving around just waiting to rob you or bash/stab you for looking side-ways at them
that unfortunatley the "freedom" of not having CCTV becomes a pretty worthless freedom,
speaking from Sydney anyways......

In the short term yes, you are right. I the long term we are giving "big brother" another tool to control the masses with.

SoLiDUS 10-02-2002 10:02 PM

I agree.

As for the idea that they will prevent car theft or help bring the thieves to
justice, HAH!

Nigga please, they have trouble tracking a stolen car with a GPS installed.

hake:

ah George Orwell, the ideas you give us

Tripper 10-02-2002 11:28 PM

The only thing they would catch with those cameras would be a bum taking a dump on the street.....That reminds me......Has anyone seen 'Bumfights?' Apparently the guys that made it were arrested recently because of their involvment with human rights violations....

mr.miyagi 10-02-2002 11:57 PM

you got that tramp takin a poop vid handy?
..its for a side project i'm working on.

Gor blimey guvna the UK is full of cameras, it does cut crime but then you literally have no privacy, try takin a piss on a shop window these days and you'll end up on some 'teen pissing voyeur video' developed in belgium handed down from rebel security guards
