Time has to do with motion, and with the big bang, motion starts; therefore,
we can say that the "beginning" of time could be when the big bang occured
even though there aren't any precise definitions of what time is. We didn't
invent time; we simply devised a way to measure it. Time is special just like
gravity is in the sense that we know it's there but can't really expound on it.

This doesn't change the fact that motion and events occur, and that there
