Lots of good hiphop came out of the eighties....Infact, most great hiphop is from the late eighties, early ninties....Lets do the list:
Stetsasonic - early 80s
GrandMaster Flash & The Furious Five
Eric B & Rakim - Rakim is strill considered one of the best MC's ever to clutch a mic.
A Tribe Called Quest - Need I say more?
Kool Keith
Afrika Bambaata
Main Source
The Pharcyde
Gang Starr
Public Enemy
De La Soul
Brand Nubian
Todays hiphop is great too...Check out the true school scene.
I've been indulging in a lot of Jazz these days....Same kind of stuff as your list, Old Reliable.
Stuff like, Miles Davis, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Dave Brubeck, Charlie Bird Parker. I never knew music without lyrics could be so damn interesting to listen too.
Have you heard much Brasiliana Jazz? Some good stuff....Serge Mendez & Brasil 66, I love it, it's really loungy.
My favourite rock artists will always be those out of the grunge era. I enjoy some mid-70s groups too. Peter Frampton is brilliant, so are Deep Purple & Foghat.
