i just saw it. I will say it was a good movie-but not as good as gettysburg. This movie focusus on the people of the war (when it was meant to focus on the soldier) It puts too much focus on Jackson. In gettysburg, the camera follows chamberlain. the difference is they were conversations with his brother, killrain ect. In gods and gen... Jackson has a number of nonlogues, and the conversations are dominated by Jackson. Even though he was religious, i dont think they should have included all the bible stuff-i learned more about how the bible compares with battle reports than anything. Also, the soudtrack is awefull. Unfortunately this affects the fighting-in good fight scenes-the music ruins the suspense. I will however mention that the fighting was very good. Also in the beginning the explosions were from the ground-towards the end they were mainky computer generated, but the bullets were hitting the trees and ground, sending up dust. This change almost makes me wonder whether they changed demolition companies during th production.
Unfortunately this movie was a bit of a let down. it was made up of primarily monologues, rather than heart to heart conversations. Im not the type who just watches movies for the fighting (as you may assume), but this movie would have been an excellent miniseries. It reminded more of north and south than gettysburg or glory.
the movie:
monooque-bible verse--monologue bible-bible-short fight-monolougue-monologue-bible-bible-monologue-conversaiong-fight (which was excellent)-bible-intermission-conversation-monologue-bible-bible-letter-christmas carrol- monologue-monologue-monologue-bible-conversation about bible-monologue-small fight ruined by music-monoloque-bible stuff-jackson dies-monologue- the end
