The answer to the original question is : Nobody knows for sure.
There are two sides to the debate and both sides have been represented here. On one hand you have the case for biological factors, on the other hand the case for sociological/environmental factors.
The Nature vs. Nurture debate is not a new one. Its reach is widespread throughout the world of psychology. Scholars have debated on these grounds in discussing such phenomena as personality disorders, depression, obesity, and a million other topics.
Personally, I think it has more to do with the environment and the experiences the person had in early childhood development. Sure, I'm open to the idea that there may be physical factors, but without conclusive proof, I'd be more inclined to pick Nurture over Nature.
