1) That's a 400mhz bus chip, meaning it's probably Socket 423. Socket 423 mobos do not support the faster 533mhz FSB.

2) If you want to take the processor out, you lift the socket lever (right next to the socket) to lift/insert the processor.

3) "cooling foam" = Thermal Grease, such as Artic Silver. Yes, whenever you upgrade a CPU, you should clean the heatsink/CPU heatspreader with a brilo pad, and apply a new spread of thermal grease.

4) If the CPU gets overheated, in most newer motherboards, the PC will sound some sort of alarm, or will automatically shut down. It will not save data, shut down properly, etc. . just shut off.
