Well if u got 2½ tons of shit in your room your exceeding the structural capacity of your floor. Residential construction is typically designed for 40 PSF (pounds per square foot) of live load.

Live load is...

Furniture, People... anything that can be moved around....

Dead load is...

Structure, static objects etc...
