Don't quote me on this but I believe 3 years in any branch of the military is required before you can apply, but after that it's open to anyone.
Just checked and its 2 years reg force, 3 years reserve before you can apply.
I know a guy out in winnipeg whose an MP. I was on course with him last summer.
