They are replacements for the helicopters currently on Navy Frigates. The Sea Kings are used for anti-sub and a general purpose helicopter for the navy. Since the current 50 year old ones keep falling out of the sky, I guess someone finally decided it was time to get some new ones. And these aren't EH-101's. Their cheaper. And they won't be in service for a number of years. The process should have been started 15 years ago, which it was, but cancelled by Jean Chretien when he came into power, at a cost of $100 million in penalties. GG Jean.
