Did you get that from the atheists cliff notes.
There absolutely was corruption with in the church. It was run by men, and men as a rule can be corrupted. The catholic FAITH was built on the teachings of the old and new testaments. The corruption stemmed from the political machine the church became. Power and wealth have been corrupting since the dawn of man.
Martin Luther didnt give up the faith, only the politics.
The spanish inquisistion (note the word spanish- it wasnt the whole church) and the crusades were both the result of the abuse of power.[/quote:001a7]Exactly. you all have to get through your thick skulls that I don't have posters in my room showing priests of the 1500's torturing people. I follow the works of the catholic faith, not the wrongful actions. Pope John Paul II did appologize to the world (and jews for not helping them during wwii) for it's past sins. I still don't understand how you all can call my an evil idiot blindly following works when I clearly state that i don't in any way agree with much of the catholic church's actions in the past.
