It may not be necessary but people like to do it. Which gives a reason why people would use an assault rifle.

True but, not everyone is fit and young enough to join the military or cops. Some people do not desire that occupation. That is simply your opinion that shooting guns should be left to authority figures.
In this kind of arguement/squabble w/e it is basically my opinion against yours.
