If youre on east coast best bet would be the Optus servers followed by Internode, 3FL and the rest. They usually come back as the better pings and when I was on 56k I spent most of my time on the Optus cause it was pretty stable. If youre on west coast the 3FL servers will probably have the best pings for you. You wont have that many that are playable pings cause there are a lot less servers in Oz to choose from.
Anyways get "all-seeing eye" available from
http://www.google.com and upgrade the game to the v1.11 patch cause thats what most are running now. The patch will erase any single-player games youve got saved but i dont think theres any way around that (anyone know?).
Youll get lag on and off. A 20 player server is playable and lower than that is better. I wouldnt try joining anything with a 300 ping cause youll probably just timeout.
