hmm thats an interesting one. check and see how many processes are running in the backround. ctrl alt del > processes tab. anything over 30 and you got major spyware running. it could be the nasty kind which hides in your registry. both adaware and spybot have trouble rectifying this kind of spyware.

if it has been running fine for a number of months, and all of the sudden you have been experiencing this problem, then it definately sounds like a virus. go to the forums of symantec, norton or macafee etc. and post your symptoms, chances are they will help you from there.
