Perhaps you should chat with her before so she at least gets to make an opinion about you. Perhaps go there earlier, purchase something and strike up a conversation. Feel her out...if she's receptive, then there's your answewr for later. If everything goes smooth, go back and chat with her some more then ask her to accompany you somewhere (drink, lunch...whatever)

I was thinking about feeling her out, but wasnt sure on how to do that, or what to say since I dont know her and have nothing to go on. but the idea of returning to the store and not buying anything bothers me, and she does work the register, making this even harder, because if she worked somewhere else then I could just ask a question about something and then make some small talk too, with her working the register , I cant really take my time.
