Actually several government studies over the years show that more lives are saved than are taken by guns.

Well, as we say here, if you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns. And as a matter of fact, my father did point a gun at a criminal and it did save his life (IMO). A guy came to his dorr and tried to break it down even though he could see my father was in the house. My father is in his seventies, the "intruder" was in his twenties and much larger than my dad. The guy finally ran away once my father raised his gun and pointed it at him. I have no doubt that my father's life would have been taken had this young man busted down our door.

As they say, God created man. Sam Colt made them equal. How can you say that if we got rid of all the guns that we would be any safer? Are we all suddenly going to be the same size? Are we then going to outlaw knives? Baseball bats? Pipes? Garden tools?

I've talked about this in other threads till I'm blue in the face so I'm not going to go into it again, but the issue is not about whether or not we need guns, or whether or not guns prevent crime...the arguement can only be about wether or not the Second Amendment applies to all citizens. As Americans, we have a right to own a gun to use for defense, or for recreation, or for paper weights if we want to use them that way.

**EDIT*** by the way it was illegal for this guy to possess a gun, The article says he had served a year in prison for "aggravated assault with an auto" (I guess he didn't always need a gun to attack someone, eh?) So..being a convicted felon, he is not allowed to even possess a gun - much less own one. As I said ... only the outlaws will have guns.
