Now this one is pretty obvious. Because tripper isn't an American, by default he wishes he were, but because Americans are some kind of exclusive group that no one can become who isn't born one trip is just a wannabe.

The Malibu's Most Wanted remark is probably intended to remark upon trippers hypocracy of calling Pyro a wigger, Anita then goes on to remark that Americans don't think it's cool to be gay.

For no reason whatsoever does Anita bring up homosexuality other then his own reasoning that Tripper is wanting to be gay because Americans think it's cool to fuck dudes and Tripper wants to be an American?

Please don't say "us americans", I hardly consider myself in the same group as you.
