Some bodybuilders make good money for a living, so they do it for that reason.
As for me, I don't necessarily bodybuild to get freaky huge like some of those guys, but I do want myself to look good, for my own satisfaction. The whole "You gotta look good so you can go on the beach" is a bunch of BS to me, because most people are actually shirtless in public, like what, maybe 2 times a year tops? A large part of lifting weights is to build self-confidence in one's self, which in turn translates to how you are in public, how well you can strike up a conversation with some girl you like or whatever. Your face may still look like it was ran over by a truck, but at least the boost in confidence at a better body will show when you hang out with others.
