I think the point is that these are the kind of things you would expect from a KGB like organization or china or north korea, no?
Why should anyone know what you've bought or where you've went. Especially without your consent.
You may not have a problem with it, and thats fine for you, but others may have, and they have not given their consent.
The truth is the law keepsbeing bent. Wire tapping etc only with a warrant. Then wire tapping without a warrant but only if there is reasonable suspicion, then wiretapping whenever requested and the justification is your security.
Where is the line drawn? Does ther need to be a line drawn? Should we all just get implantable chips so someone can track every move you make? Then you know if someone is a citizen or not, or where they were during a crime or something like that. But why should this information be disclosed?
My belief is you shouldn't have to give up any liberty for security, but that people are perfectly willing to do so, which is sad.
