The Detroit Red Wings have taken 2006 Norris Trophy winner Nicklas Lidstrom off the free agent market, signing him to a two-year contract. The deal will pay him $7.6 million US in each season. Lidstrom, a career Red Wing who was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on Saturday, led all NHL defencemen in scoring in 2005-06, with a career-high 80 points, including 16 goals.
