As far as I'm concerned, this conversation is long over - I made my point with my last huge post, and Shawn's post following is just recycling his same beliefs that Jay-Z is one of the best emcees out there, which I believe is ridiculous and is pretty much his personal preference (so therefore useless to argue with)....
Now random posters who have just come into this thread can harp on and on about just listening to what sounds good, but as soon as you start making comparisons and making up bullshit like shawn has then I won't back off in a debate when I disagree...Especially about hiphop, I have such strong feelings about the genre, I love it to pieces and I also hate the fucking shit out of what one side of it is doing to my generation.
I also dunno who you're all talking to when you're telling us to listen to more than one genre - because I know I, and I believe Shawn as well (But not Bucknub, who obviously doesn't do "the dig" for his music) listen to a wide variety of different genres. So don't even start with that.
P.s - Shawn, you should expand your tastes in hiphop, because those lyrics are really nothing special at all compared to other, more interesting stuff out there. That's really boring shit you posted in terms of quality of emceeing.
...and yes, M79, I was trying to have a discussion on what Jay-Z and others like him have done to hiphop, but it clearly went over Shawns head as he just rebuttled with a post regarding his weak lyrics and nothing to reply with regarding the guy's place in the genre.
