if it was through the heart it didnt matter. It probably wasnt a consious decision to pull it out but more of a natural reaction. He most likely would have died from teh amount of shock it put in his body, not to mention a direct venomous injection right to the heart.
It is very true that if you have something puncturing your chest, neck, or head, and you live, you are supposed to leave it in so that doctors can remove it safely. However this wasnt a knife, or a branch, or anythign of that sort, this was a living creature so having just stabbed something its next move would have been to get away thus either causing severe damage internally by moving the barb around or by snapping the barb off(they can do it, personal expierence) and leaving it in the victim.
