China Mieville - the Scar
James Morrow - Towing Jehova

Now reading:
James Morrow - Blameless in Abandon
Bernard Cornwell - Excalibur

If you want to read some amazingly imaginitive dark science fiction read China Mieville. The Scar is an amazing book, but you would want to read Perdido Street Station first. The guy is amazing, he's only written three books and has already won a handful of awards.
