lol... i wouldnt expect you to be from the UK as it is in actual fact 4:45 in the morning here and im probably the only loser still up. Anyway, it may just have been a bad server you were connecting too which couldnt handle a 56k.

I know 56k is supposed to be better with servers because it doesnt take up so much bandwidth, but it does cause lag because the modem is constantly trying to catch up with whats happening in the server and causes it to slow down, where the information cant be read quick enough.

I have 512k Broadband and even i lag up sometimes because of the shite quality of the servers.

The reason it shows a much lower ping that what you actually get, is because the information which is being sent is quite small, maybe a byte or two and is measuring the time it takes to get from the server, to your computer. With much more data going through the line, it takes longer.
