Default Doom 3 (full version) capped at 60fps - 11-03-2002, 08:18 PM

Just watched a gamespot video interview with id ceo tod hollenstead.

According to him carmack has capped doom 3's frame rate to 60 fps. He stated that in doom 3 30fps is going to provide a good playing experiance but no matter what you do the game won't exceed 60fps.

SO basically no matter what hardware you have its not going to exceed 60fps. This is supposodly hard coded into the engine too.

That's a good thing. I will just cap it at 30 myself so I don't have it running super fast in places, and then feel the burn of it going slow.

The human eye does not see more than 57FPS. So, anything over 60 isn't much of a difference. I'm sure they'll be a command to change the maxFPS though, just like in MOH. Why would anyone limit frames?! That's so dumb!

Well, I for one do that because my framerate in some places is pretty high, and in some spots they go down to about 30 or so, and I don't want it to go from fast to slow, so it helps me have a smoother gameplay without a framerate tranisition. It's probably for those without uber-hardware. That's just my guess.
