Default Amplifier Problem - 05-19-2005, 06:50 PM

I just recently got an amp for my electric guitar, and it's acting strange. It comes out with a low rumbling noise no matter what I set the treble or bass for. That really pisses me off because it's new and I only got it a day or two ago.. Any suggestions?

What kind of amp is it? Does it make this sound if the cord is not plugged in? Does the amp have a 3 pronged electrical cord? Are you plugging the amp into a grounded outlet? Does the amp have a "phase" switch?

Laurel GL-10, no, yes, yes, and no.

For all I know it's a problem with the guitar output. I've got a guitar lesson later, so I'll ask the guy what's up.

If you plug in just the cord (without the axe) does it make the sound? If so then the cord may be defective. If it only makes the noise when the guitar is plugged in, then the guitar isn't grounded properly.

What kind of guitar do you have?

I have a Fender Telecaster. It's not hum, if that's what you're talking about. I think the problems fixed.. I dunno how.. But it's not giving me the rumble any more. eek:

Might've been your cords too. Old/cheapass cords are really noisy sometimes and can cause hum or static.
