Question/Poll -

Should I buy Half Life 2?
I am not interested in Single Player, because FPS single player usually suck ass, but I heard this one might be different.
I am basically doing this for the multiplayer. I have never ever played Counterstrike and since there is losers who spend 24/7 playing it from the time halflife 1 came out...will I even have a chance against anyone...cuz i heard it is round based and i don't feel like dying and waiting a year...and then dying again...
So im basically asking is it easy to learn/are people already too good?

What little I played of Counter Strike, I would say do not buy it for that. Maybe for some of the mods that will come out. Perosonally since I can't play MP at the house due to dial up, I bought it for the SP. I have to say no game has even came close to how good this one was for the story in the single player campaign.

Pyro, you'll get the hang of it but these people have been playing and cheating for years so you're gonna get spanked in the begining. I'm sorry i bought Half-life 2...i don't see what the big fuss was over that game. I stopped playing it after an hour or so and haven't picked it up in weeks. I guess all those "realistic war" games (MOH, COD) really spoiled me.
If you plan on getting it, wait a few months for the price to drop.
The world is my urinal

Not to me. I don't think a story could be done better than it was in HL2, but thats just me.

Ya, my original intention was to wait for a price drop. But by then im sure the gf1.com people will find a new game to play. They always seem to never put time into games for a long period of time...like they used to do for MOHAA.

Not really anything innovative in it, you have physics, ragdoll effects, specular highlighting which gives floors a shine and in scoped rifles you can see the reflection of whats behind you on the scope when its not being used, bumpmapping effects to make the characters seem more beleivable. Besides that it plays sort of like 1.6 but dumbed down quite a lot so spraying is now a "legitimate" tactic. The game is still a work in progress, hitboxes are totally fucked up for the most part, shoot at someone going behind a wall and even if they get behind it usually you'll end up registering a couple of hits because their hitbox was trailing behind the player model.
Its a fun game to play, theres mods in the works to make it play like 1.6, or maybe valve can get the thumb out and actually fix some of the shit they seemingly overlooked. Still dunno after showing this off in lan parties in asia etc and after it being beta tested that they never noticed hit detection was seriously oOo: .

you would think, that the most popular online game would be a tad better.

Well cs as it was for the old engine didn;t really need anything new to make it good, had basic graphics but was fun to get into. Source..i dunno what they done, they once said it wasn;t meant to be a straight port but more like the best parts of 1.0 upto 1.6, then next thing they say its meant to be a 1.6 port. Doesn't play much like 1.6 or any other version ive played mainly because running and spraying really wasn't an option in the older version unless you got very lucky, in this its one of the more whored things to do.

the game is great, I finished single player in the "normal" mode and now I have finished it in the "hardest" mode. Lots to do in the game, its not just running around shooting, there are times when you have to figure stuff out and use your brain. I liked the graphics and the gameplay. its worth the money!
