I'm not really a networking guy but I have fiddled with my Networking options before and think I may have messed them up, so I could please use some assistance here configuring my Network Controller.

first off, explain the problem so i know what to look for in what you given, or what to ask for in what you havent shown

Are any of those settings not appropriate to gain full service potential, is the question?

My internet is usually high speed, but it drags lately. My Packets are now 60,000 sent and 20,000 for recieved. Whenever I do some simple downloads I get capped at 24KB/s.

I've called ComCast and there's no reports of outages in my area and everything is fine on their end regarding my IS account, so I suspect it's having to do with me toying with the networking options.
And I don't like talking to technicians because they either can't speak English or they have you run some simple ipconfig tests I already know about.

Ok, first give me the other options for "Optimized For:" and the "Network Address: (*)Not Present" seems a bit out of place. Finally, upgrade your drivers!!

ok your settings seem fine, just try upgrading the driver and see what that does

Downloaded and installed latest Ethernet driver, no real big impact yet, just a bit faster but not a big improvement.
What's that site where you test your ping against other computers all over the world? I remember it had a green global map to choose from. Was something like http://www.testping.net, can't recall.

you can try bandwidthplace.com to test bandwidth, see how you sit as far as your area goes. as far as whats wrong...i cant tell with any of the settings.

Well it's running fast now, tweaked to the settings to what a friend had.

Another problem: my cable box heats up, like really bad. Sometimes the plastic is a bit too hot to touch. Never really noticed it being hot till I touched it to reset it the other day. Should it bet getting hot?

Or should I get a new one? If so, do I go through ComCast or would I be able to go buy one at BestBuy/NewEgg/etc...?

ive never heard of them getting so hot you cant touch them. contact your Service provider for both trouble shooting and the new box if thats the route you end up going

ComCast came today and replaced it, they said it burned out or something.

Got a new model, little white box that's been room temperature for the last 30 minutes. beer:
