My friends MR2... -
02-04-2006, 11:26 AM
So I just got off the phone with my friend who has an MR2. To give you a little backround on this guy, he's 20 yrs old and works his ass off at school and works at Toyota detailing cars. Well I've known him since we were 14. He's literally been working since then to buy a car. When he was 17, he bought a 1992 MR2. We lovingly named his car "The Deuce". I've never seen someone work so hard for or on a car.
He didn't rice it up or anything, he actually put care and effort into this car by installing actual good shit for his engine. His dad worked at the Sony around here and naturally got good discounts on things like fold out dvd/TV and CD players and shit. On top of that , his dad also did work for a local garage as a comp tech guy. Recently my friend had installed a turbo engine in it. It took him like 2 years to save up for, but when he got it he literally himself helped install it and did alot of extra stuff for the engine like powder coating it and cleaning it really good. This thing could really haul. He wasn't dumb about it racing on streets or anything, he did it on tracks and when he went to MR2 meets all over Florida.
Well last nite was the death of the Deuce. My friend was at a stop light with his GF when all of a sudden he felt a huge WHACK! His car, which is only 2 seater, was pushed forward about 20-30 feet. He got out of his car to see if the guy behind him was okay. HE gets out of his car only to see nothingness behind him. A lady and her kids who were in McDee's and saw the whole thing rushed out to see how he was and shit. His car was TOTALED. His engine is in the back of the car and thankfully it took the brunt of the force. He and his GF were okay, but as they were sitting there at McDee's waiting for the cops and shit, he see's a truck at the same light that had it's front end all messed up with parts of his engine in the front of it and it's riding on like 3 rims or something. Another kid who also saw it asked if that was the guy who hit my friend and he said yes. The kid jumps into his Saleen Mustang and takes off after these dudes. The kid and the cops follow these guys about 5-10 miles from the accident scene and the fuckers jump out of the truck and take off in a field. Needless to say the K9's slame these fuckers to the ground hard and the two are arrested. These guys were high and drunk as shit.
Now the reason I post this is because I know some of you guys are really into cars and shit. Just remember that for as much money, devotion and all that shit you put into a car, and no matter how safe and responsible you drive, there's always fuckers who aren't.
Here's some pics of my friends car before the accident. When he gets the chance, he's going to send me some of it now.

Hope everything works out. My friend's car has been hit and run parallel parked twice outside our work in a month and it's now considered totaled. Luckily when it happened for the second time yesterday a witness, who we work with, followed the guy and called the Police. The witness said once they got pulled over the driver attempted to switch seats with the passenger so he was probably under the influence. Not to sure what's happening next or if the driver got a DUI but I had to leave and didn't get talk to him about it.

As a fellow owner i completly understand the pain in the ass the work on these cars can produce. As someone who has lost one senselessly as well i also understand that it really fucking sucks.
2000 Ford F150 pulled out from a side street and never saw me coming at 45mph. I pushed and damn near flipped him as my car went under his truck up to the windsheild.

Hard to see in the pics, but the car is actually sitting flat on the ground.
When the paramedics arrived they asked if the driver was still in the car. I said i was the driver and they simply got a puzzeled look on there face. Since the driver door was pinned shut i had to climb out the passenger door. They assumed the driver was dead. They later pried the door open to haul it away. Thank god ofr airbags.
Sorry to hear another is dead.

Iv put over $5000 into my 1986 lebaron GTS turbo so I know exactly how much work goes into working on your own cars. Iv ripped my engine apart twice now to fix stupid ass crap thats gone wrong with it. As recently as last week. It must really suck as the insurence will cut him a check for about $1000 and expect him to take it. hake:

Not likly. I was paid over blue book for a mint condition Mr2, and mine was not mint. He will likly get a handsome sum for the car, sadly it will not total the ammount put in, or come close to how much work was done on it.

I really feel the loss here, MR2's are fantastic cars (RWD + rear mounted engine).. Shame to see rare babies like this go.

Yea on the turbo dodge forums, many times people have been hit at red lights or had their parked cars hit by drunk drivers and been offered no more than $1000 for mint GLHS omni's. The most recent one was a mint red GLHS *gets all teary eyed* loney: A bunch of guys on the forum pitched in a bunch of money and bought the guy anonther omni, tho it needs alot of work its pretty cool to see a forum pull together and do that. That sure would not have happened on a honda forum.
