about Soldiers.... -

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.
It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, serves under the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protestor to burn the flag.

I had this discussion in english a few days ago. The question was "America, is it too free?" Of course it is...we have a government that supplies the freedom of speech, yet gets bashed by the people because they have the freedom to do so.

Freedom of speech and the garbage that comes with it is a great equalizer. Free press keeps government honest. Ask the former USSR or nazi germany about state sponsored (controled) press. The right to bear arms is much the same. A government that knows it population has the means to overthrow them, is much more likely to stay within their bounds. I am not trying to start a debate on gun control, but these principles come up again and again when you look at the founding of the US. Another good example of this is the three branches of government and their associated checks and balances. The US is not too free. Nice post wintersforge.

actually people bash their government in just about any place.
I know some great Russian jokes about their leaders.
like one about Nikita Khrustchev: (I don't recall this exactly so I'll ad lib it)
Medical convention:
Americans: we have the greatest medical breakthroughs, we can reattach any severed limb without any problem, or even make artificial limbs that function like the real thing
Japanese: Our electronics make our medecine the best, we make the best and smallest pacemakers and artificial hearts.
Russians (Soviets actually): that's child's play, Russian doctors found an ass, put ears and a nose on it and he's been running the country for (X) years.
(you'll think this is funny if you've even seen pictures of Khrustchev, he really does look like he has an ass for a head)
The thing is that government bashing is actually a good thing, because if we just followed whatever our leaders say like a bunch of stupid Nazis....
well you know what happened in the time period from 1934-1945.
According to Thomas Jefferson a true patriot is not one who listens to government 100% but one who is alert to corruption and tries to fix it.

Lets own this here quote *cracks knuckes*
---------Fallen------------
-by-
--------Anonymous----------
I have fallen in battle.
I see blood coming from my body.
My clothes are torn,
My arrows are broken,
I have been defeated.
The darkness has won.
I know that I am about to die.
The demon in front of me thrusts his sword towards me,
I cringe and think of everyone I love.
But a friend steps forward and takes the blow for me.
They scream out in pain and fall across my already weak and tortured body.
I cry out of pure hate and sorrow.
They died for me.
I meant so much to them that they sacrificed themselves for me.
With rage in my eyes,
I manage to stand.
I scream and grab my fallen friend’s sword.
I lunge towards the creature and slice straight through its being.
Blood is spewed on my body.
For my friends, for my family, for God,
I fight with strength and all of my heart
