That damn floppy wire of your headphones -
07-08-2006, 03:00 PM
I know we all experience the same problem with our headphones for our mp3 players. I am really sick and tired of trying to untangle my headphone cord every time I go and use my player. I put it in my pocket a lot so I can't have anything bulky. I saw on a website a ball with a bunch of spikes sticking out all around it so you can wrap your cord in that. It didn't seem practicle unless you just sit at your desk with your player. Who wants to carry around a ball with a wire wraped around it?
What are some products that I can buy to tackle this problem? Is there some little device that lets you wrap up the cord real easily after use? If there is a good solid design for one, I may just fabricate a replica with supplies from home depot or wal-mart.
I was also thinking, is there any device that you can use like a bluetooth headset? I think Apple had something out like that for their ipods, but I'm a creative vision:m owner. I wonder if they will ever make some sort of wireless earbuds/headset in the near future.
If anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it. The damn tangles are driving me nuts.

Same here. Just wrap it around, and it won't tangle.

I use these headphones:

You can see the extension in the middle part. It gets in the way, and since it's kind of long, I have to wrap it around that little pill-looking plastic piece to shorten it to the right length. I can't stand the ear buds that ipod has or the stock creative ones. They fall right out of my ears.

These things sound TERRIFIC and stay in the ear on the principle of light suction. I love them to death.

I also just came across this. It seems like the direction that I personally need to go in order to use my sony earbuds.

for $4.99 it doesn't seem like a bad deal. And I'm sure you can go to home depot and buy some materials to replicate it for $.88 or so ha

I have the same problem coleman, i have those sony's in white. And since it has that extension pice its really long, and if im walking with it in my pocket whilst listning to music, the damn cord is so long it snags on things.
And if you dont use the extension cord, the fucking thing is way to short, i mean the cord without the extension sould be long enough to reach froim pocket to head. The extension piece should be if ypur going to put it on a desk and sit there while listning to it, but it gives you room to move around or something
Why the fuck is the piece with the ear buds and the one plug SO SHORT!!!

The cord without the extension is perfect length if you want to use one of those arm bands for running (but with HD players that most people own, running and shaking isn't the healthiest thing for it). It's also pretty good length if you have an inside coat breast pocket. But how often do you wear a coat and listen to music compared to your overall listening time?

Exactly, i think it should be flip flopped, the extension cord should be as long as the piece that has the ear buds on it and vice versa. Basically the extension piece should be the shorter one. Fucking sony. I dont work out, plus i would never use my ipod and strap it to my arm, as small as it is, its TO big and heavy for my arm to work out with it on.

I used to have some sony earbuds that came in a case that reeled them in when you were done. They came completely out of the case. Then when you were done you put the buds back in, closed the lid on the case and reeled the cord in. Pretty easy. The case was pretty flat so it fit in your pocket pretty easy. I got mine at a CVS.

I wonder why they haven't pushed for wireless headphones. I know a huge disadvantage to those would be the lower sound quality, but still.
