I think he is trying to say it has full time all wheel drive, which is really tow wheel drive until the rear wheels slip and then the front wheel engage. I think the on board ocmputer will check for slipage every four rotations of something. We also call this yuppe fourwheel drive as it is only good on-road. It is designed for wet and icy roads and the differentials dont lock. To go offroad, you really want locking differentials. It will ride like hell and not want to turn, but it will keep you from having to walk out of the woods.
Then again, he might just be confused.
