I never played the single player version of halflife. I thought it was slow and sucked. I'll pass on playing the single player version on HL2 also but will look forward to some online play.

Now, lets forget HL2 and lets talk DOOM. Now, there's a game !!

As for Half life the Engine is the legend people. Not Gordon. The Half life Engine was open source for mod developers etc and has produced so many fantastic Mods which live on and make you drool.

Day Of Defeat
Counter Striek
Team Frotress Classic
Riccochet
The BattleGrounds
The SPecialist
Natural Selection
-list goes on.

Million of people play these mods and live HL on longer. While regular hl isnt to popular, there aren't many HL1 servers left in fact. The ones tat are are full of hackers etc festering pits.

Its the Engine and wht Half Life has amazingly sparked in the game world. Mods. Open source on a flexible engine. Beutiful. One of the greatest revolutions in video games since 3d became availible. beer:

But in saying that halflife engine was nothing more than a heavily modified quake 1 engine, which was in turn made by iD. Doom multiplayer, no-one really knows yet, for all anyone knows hl2 is gonna be more strenious for servers since it can hold more players 32 or so compared to doom 3's 4-8.

Counter-Strike
DoD and now with HL:2 the new updated mods will be alot better then anything that will becoming out in Awhile.
