lol @ didnt exist ...
theres only 84028408402984 historical paintings, text, and documents saying he did. how many texts are committed to discussing the life of big foot , or the tooth fairy. would you also argue that julius caesar didnt exist ? there no real way for you to know for sure that he did.
in all honesty, i dont give a shit how anyone feels the need to think of him, her, it. if they want to believe jesus was purple, more power.

The first gospels were not written until 40 years after Jesus' death and link between the bible and Jesus goes through Paul. Unfortunatley, in his hundreds of pages of writings, he never mentions Jesus once.
The thing is, with Caesar, people were around writing about him when he existed. Nobody ever wrote anything about Jesus when he was alive.

i dont know the history behind it, but ill take your word that you do.
im still left wondering how one would benifit by contriving such a tale. Especially in a time where following anyone other than your countries leaders would result in your own death. Obviously, it wasnt safe to profess your faith at the time of christs death, and im pretty sure that christians were persecuted for years to come after his death. So, why would you commit to paper something that you knew would result in your own death until you felt safe to do so? Again, im not a bible scholar, but im pretty sure there are other authors besides peter who had some knowledge, and written about, such a person.
Also, this information has been around for what, more than a thousand years? Doesnt it seem logical that by now someone would have definitively proven that there wasnt such a man?

I'm not a scholar either.
I "am" a Roman Catholic. I went to a catholic school for 13 years. It wasn't until a few years ago that I decided I was agnostic, and more recently, and atheist. I have nothing against religion. If anyone wants to pray to whomever, go right ahead. I think for me personally, studying space and the like made me realize that the people on this planet are really nothing special, so why do we have to make ourselves feel special by having a savior and a god who created us and looks after us? After thinking about that question for a long time, it because apparent to me that we are nothing more than biology, chemistry and physics.
As for why people would make up a story, I can guess, but never be certain. And I’m sure there are others in this world that could give you a much more complete answer, but religion is a very powerful tool. And especially 2000 years ago, those who controlled religion, controlled power. Grow your religion, grow your own power. This is shown through the fact that many holidays like Christmas and Easter were celebrated before Christ ever came about. Christmas was celebrated by the pagans. They used to celebrate around dec 25 because the sun would "die" on the 21st, because of the longer days, and they would try to appease the gods to make sure the sun would always come back. There are many examples of pagan traditions merging with Christian traditions. Some would say this is because the church tried to drown the pagan religion out by assimilating them.
All I can really say is the existence of god for me seems so I’mrobable, that it makes me an atheist. And the circumstances surrounding Christ also seem so I’mrobable, that I have decided he did not exist.
Until such time as it can be proven he did infact exist, I will continue to side with the fact that he didn't exist. And I’m pretty sure it's never been proven that he existed. In fact, I was recently reading an article where a judge ordered a priest to prove that Christ existed. Infact, here's an article if you’re interested:

The absence of proof isn't the proof of absence.
Also, Judas makes a good point. This beleif has been around for a long time yet no one has actually been able to discredit it, that proves at least that it is something special.

There were the 12 Apostles, and I think all but Judas(mwah) wrote books used in the bible. To me personally, I dont really care what color his skin was, or his hair or eyes. But this from the article really bothered me:
[quote:ecbab]aims to shatter the Western image of a placid savior with fair hair and blue eyes.[/quote:ecbab]
He thinks we think of Jesus as tne perfect aryan, whereas most portrayals of him are dark hair ans brown eyes. rolleyes:
And there is proof that Jesus existed. There has got to be, for instance, a record of his crucificion, the romans kept records of that stuff. Also, even Jews and Muslims recognize his existance, but not his devine purpose or origin.
