i built the current computer i have from scratch and also the one i am putting together as an upgrade..... we have no dell adverts on tv..... thats your deal.
now back to the point about performance..... do you really wanna continue this conversation with me that a CPU with a clock speed of 1.8ghz will perform better than one running at 2.8ghz+ ?
seriously man does that even to misinformed primates thats gonna be a stretch to hold onto.
now thats an overclock..... however as i said its using nothing other than the stock HSF and bios settings. AMD can also be o/c but unlike P4 you are now dealing with manually cutting/joining parts on your cpu as well as filling in the trench the nex XPs come with. this is not something either of us can assume your standard user is capable of or willing to do.
and if you wanna talk about price.... that AMD XP 2200+ CPU youre talking about is more expensive to get for me than a retail P4 2.4ghz. so comparing its perfomance to the much lower priced P42.0ghz isnt really that bright. comparing costs the P4 model you can get for the same price as an AMD XP 2200+ outperforms the AMD in 3dmark2000, 3dmark2001, quake3 arena, lame mp3, SiSoft Sandra2002 CPU benchmark, SiSoft Sandra2002 Memory benchmark and any other goddamn benchmark that you wanna use. likewise for the overclocked P4 2.0.
*sigh*
i think its pretty clear whos brainwashed here.
