don't pick up the ammo. Every single cache of ammo or health you find will always trigger monsters to come out thus wasting the ammo and or health you just picked up. So why bother?

Here's our obviously placed weapons cache. Note how it's well lit and easy to obtain. Don't touch it though...

...or else you'll apparently piss off some sort of demonic travelling band of gun enthusiests...

Moving on, let's look at how those scary monsters enter the room. You'll walk into a room. If there isn't a monster already standing two inches from the door what will happen is there will be a noise or some other distraction for a cheap scare followed by a gaggle of monsters emerging from anywhere but the door. Let's observe:

Okay, here we have our standard room. Note the pipes? Get used to them. They're everywhere. Now, since there's no imediate danger the next step is to walk into the room...

...which wakes up the monsters. Note how none of them have actually used the door.
