I'm not aware of this sub, unelss you are talking about the new A series which I believe is still in development. Baskets dont mean anything, no smaller company tools their own baskets, I doubt they were lightning audio's anyways, maybe the same ones lighting audio uses.. but a basket's only function is to hold the stuff together. After all, their are only like 5 buildhouses in the united states, most companies get their parts form them, only the big dogs like JL, MTX, and a few others tool all their own parts. About the replacing subs, that was basically not ED's fault. Their old flat cones subs were great, the porblem was their supplier of the cones was not reliable and so they ended up being backed up with orders and no subs to ship, this is why they switched to the new lineup we have now, so now, when an old flat cone goes out of commision, ED doesnt have those parts to repair the sub, so they usually offer a refund or a replacement sub of the new lineup. The new lineup is in all respects better than the old one. Instead of the old A series (best), we have the new O series which performs even better. The old O has no new comparison, it was a sealed only driver and not extremely popular. THe old K is now the new K with, again, better performance. Alot of people dont like ED, but you'll find that mostly their hate is not based off experience, but a few respected guys who blew things out of proportions, mainly Ben's (ED CEO) old really good friend Josh Laine who felt Ben cheated him... I've nothing but good things to say about ED, I got to meet Ben and was one of the first to see the flat cones in action, Josh had one in his car at the time.
