To offer some personal experience, I have bought A LOT more CDs since the "file-sharing" days began. I just disagree on the fact that the RIAA is putting the sole blame on "file-swapping". I agree it's illegal. It's more of a guilty pleasure that everybody seems to have taken for granted. But, it will never go away. Many people feel that since CD prices are inflated, they have the unwritten "right" to download music. The RIAA, despite intentions to stop this, simply can't. This is a behemoth that will not go away. The RIAA is directly attacking the American consumer, in essence biting the hand that feeds it. The technology is too great. My brother only takes DLs from 1 user on Flash FXP, who literally downloads every rock/emo/metal album and movie, who my brother leeches off of. The DLs aren't put on a "database" like Kazaa, but are simply put on a simple, "comp-to-comp" program.

I do have another question. I don't know if I'm right (probably not) but wouldn't Kazaa or the RIAA be violating the "right to privacy" in taking I.P addresses off of the Internet? Couldn't someone file suit with the Internet companies who guarentee your privacy is kept secret?
