i just use a airbrush tool at 50% with pure black paint. and spray it on the areas where i want the shadow to be. i then usually ajust the opacity/transparency to around 20%. for highlights do the same except substitue the black with white.many different technigues are used by many different people, just play around with it and see what works best for you
